Memphis Urban League Annual Empowerment Luncheon

The Memphis Urban League (MUL) will host its Annual Empowerment Luncheon on Thursday, August 23, 2018 from 11:30AM – 1:00PM. This event will be held at the University of Memphis Holiday Inn located at 3700 Central Ave with Michael P. McMillan, President & CEO of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis as the Keynote Speaker.

McMillan will address the legacy of the Urban League Movement; the essence of its empowerment and the change that empowerment brings to future generations. As an accomplished civic leader, an advocate for social and economic empowerment and a public servant, McMillan oversees the largest and highest rated Urban League affiliate in the country. During the Ferguson uprising, tear-gassed and arrested, McMillan a foot soldier for justice sought to bring peace to a torn community. In the aftermath of the Ferguson crisis, McMillan helped to organize resources for the community to address the immediate needs. McMillan, a true soldier in the Movement.

The Memphis Urban League will graciously bestow its Community of Champions Award – honoring individuals, organizations and corporations whose mission aligns with that of the Memphis Urban League, and those that lead and advance efforts to serve residents who live in undeserved communities in Memphis and Shelby County. The prestigious “I AM EMPOWERED” Award will be presented to one who has made a mark of empowerment and a tremendous impact in the movement to secure equality, power and civil rights for all.
