Drive for Justice
Memphis Urban League Young Professionals Hosts Voter Registration and Census Drive
Time & Location
Jul 05, 2020, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Hollywood Community Center, 1560 N Hollywood St, Memphis, TN 38108, USA
About the event
This Drive for Justice is our response to and protest against racism, police brutality and the underlying attitudes and systems that have allowed both to exist and uproot the lives of many families over the years, but most recently this year with the killings of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Tony McDade, and Ahmaud Arbery among many others . Systemic racism has caused our communities to lack resources and access to quality healthcare, schools, jobs, water and other necessities and currently contributes to African Americans and Latinos being more susceptible to Covid-19 and more likely to die of complications associated with the virus.
Memphis Urban League Young Professionals stand ready to empower the communities of Memphis to address and change the trajectory of these systems amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. Sunday July 5th Memphis Urban League Young Professionals will lead a peaceful Motorcade protest that will culminate into a Drive-Thru Voter Registration/Census Drive at Hollywood Community Center. Participants will have the opportunity to register to vote and complete the Census 2020 with the help of volunteers in the safety of their cars where PPE will be provided and precautions taken to ensure the safety of all attendees and volunteers.
Thanks to donations received from Nike, the first 200 attendees will receive FREE Nike face coverings.
